生光学園中学校

The I.E.C. course is a partial English immersion course offered at Seiko Gakuen Kindergarten, Primary School and Junior High School.  Seiko Gakuen is located in Tokushima City, Shikoku, Japan.
Seiko Gakuen is one of only two schools in Japan which gives students the opportunity to learn English through regular immersion classes.
The immersion English program has been running for several years in the Kindergarten and Primary School, however it was only introduced in the Junior High School in 2000.  The immersion English program will be expanded further when it is introduced to the High School in 2003.  This will make Seiko Gakuen the only school in Japan to offer regular immersion English classes from Kindergarten to Senior High School.
Students studying in the I.E.C. course are also provided with various opportunities to study abroad.
At Seiko Gakuen Junior High School, students undertake regular English, English Activity, computer and Physical Education classes with an Australian teacher.  At present, there are a total of eight Australian teachers working full time at Seiko Gakuen.
Students also participate in Grammar classes conducted by a Japanese teacher in order to prepare them for High School and University examinations.
The method of learning a foreign language through immersion has been proven to work with nearly all students studying in the I.E.C. course attaining levels of pre-2 or 2 in the National Eiken examination by the second year of Junior High School.  This is a much higher result than the average graduating Japanese senior high school student.
Also, as many classes are conducted only in English, the speaking and listening and comprehension skills of each student is much higher than average.
In short, students in the I.E.C. course learn English through using English, and through regular interaction with Native English teachers, and international trips, grow to become Internationally minded people.
